Neurofeedback (NFB), also known as “EEG biofeedback,” is a non-invasive technique designed to optimize brain function. The human brain emits electrical activity in waves that can be measured by a device called an electroencephalogram (EEG). When the brain is dysregulated and not functioning well, evidence of this often shows up on an EEG. Using an EEG, we measure the brain’s electrical activity through sensors placed on the scalp and earlobes. This real-time data allows us to identify dysregulated brainwave patterns that may indicate underlying difficulties.
Our skilled psychologists and neurofeedback technicians utilize this information to help individuals gain control over their brainwave activity. By employing auditory signals and visual displays, individuals are able to develop healthier brain patterns. This gradual learning process, where brainwave activity is “shaped,” helps individuals learn how to regulate brainwave activity more effectively.
Neurofeedback can be beneficial for a range of conditions, including:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
- Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Sleep Disorders
- Migraines
By promoting self-regulation, NFB enhances overall brain function and alleviates symptoms associated with a variety of conditions.
Our Approach to Neurofeedback (NFB)
We offer NFB as an adjunct intervention for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma-related conditions such as PTSD, ADHD, and sleep disorders. Each individual receives a personalized NFB training plan developed from comprehensive data gathered during an intake interview, EEG recording, and psychological testing, if needed. Treatment plans are continuously monitored and adjusted based on self-report and EEG data to ensure optimal outcomes.
We encourage you to contact our practice for more information about NFB or to schedule a consultation with one of our psychologists.
Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES)
Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation (CES) is a non-invasive therapeutic technique that involves applying a low amplitude waveform (mild electrical current) to the brain through electrodes placed on the ears. This therapy helps regulate the brain’s electrical signals, which can be particularly beneficial for managing anxiety and improving sleep, both of which are controlled by our central nervous system.
Our Approach to Cranial Electrotherapy Stimulation
At CASA, we offer CES as part of our comprehensive mental health care approach. Our trained psychologists use CES as a safe and effective adjunct therapy for individuals seeking relief from insomnia and anxiety. Through personalized treatment plans and ongoing support, we aim to assist individuals in achieving positive mental health outcomes.
If you are interested in exploring CES as a potential treatment option, we invite you to reach out to our practice for more information or to schedule a consultation with one of our experienced clinicians.
