How can therapy be helpful?
Therapy can be challenging, as it often involves experiencing intense emotions and discussing difficult topics. However, it also offers a valuable opportunity to build strategies, receive support, and work through concerns. You don’t need to have a mental health disorder to benefit from therapy. We all face difficult times and can benefit from professional help. If you are experiencing distress that you struggle to manage, if your difficulties are interfering with your daily life, if you are open to talking about your concerns, and if you are willing to work toward change, therapy may be a helpful step for you.
What’s the difference between therapy and a formal assessment?
At the beginning of therapy, each psychologist will complete an intake assessment. This often takes one to two sessions where your psychologist will ask about your goals, your history, your current struggles, various symptoms you experience, and about other aspects of your life. Using this information, the psychologist will work with you to build an appropriate treatment plan. A formal assessment is typically more comprehensive than an intake assessment and involves incorporating information from various sources, such as questionnaires, direct testing, interview, observation, and sometimes conversations with other individuals in your life and review of any relevant background documentation. A formal assessment is not required to engage in treatment, although it is sometimes recommended by your psychologist.
How will an assessment help me?
Formal assessments take more time and can be costly. However, they can be very helpful for individuals who want to understand their symptoms and potential diagnoses better. If you have engaged in various treatments without success, are confused about the reasons for your difficulties, have had many different diagnoses throughout your life, or feel that something has been missed, an assessment may help. Formal assessments can offer better personal understanding, direction for treatment, access to services, and validation.
How do I book an appointment?
If you are not currently a client, you can contact our office via email (reception@casa-psych.ca) or telephone (306-664-6647) to inquire about seeing a psychologist. It helps if you can tell us a little about why you want to see a psychologist so we can match you with a provider who has the appropriate training and experience for your needs. Sometimes there are no psychologists available to take new clients immediately, and you may be asked if you are willing to go on a waitlist. If you are a current client, you can call (306-664-6647) or email (reception@casa-psych.ca) the office to book an appointment with your psychologist. If you are a former client, but have not received services in the past 6 months, you can reach out to our office and inquire about seeing your previous psychologist again or about seeing a new psychologist if you would prefer.
What can I expect during my first session?
During your first session, your psychologist will conduct an intake assessment to gather information about your history, current struggles, symptoms, and goals for therapy. This session is an opportunity for you to ask questions and express your concerns. Your psychologist will work with you to develop a treatment plan tailored to your needs. The initial session typically lasts 50 minutes
How long will I be in therapy?
The length of therapy depends on many factors, including your preference, the nature of your difficulties, and general life circumstances. Therapy can be short term (e.g., up to 12 sessions) or longer term. After completing the intake assessment, your psychologist can provide an estimation of the length of therapy and recommend treatment options. Some clients attend therapy weekly so that they can gain more momentum in their change or because they require extra support. Some clients attend less frequently because they do not need intense support, they have completed therapy and only need occasional “check-ins,” or because of financial and time limitations.
What are your fees?
Fees for therapy are $200 for a 50-minute session (the additional 10 minutes is used to review and complete session notes). Fees for therapy provided by practicum students are $100 per session and fees for student associates completing their doctoral training and for predoctoral residents are $130 per session. All students and residents provide services under the supervision of a registered doctoral psychologist.
Therapy fees for our doctoral level psychologists will be increasing to $230 for a 50-minute session effective February 1, 2025; therapy fees for all of our other providers will remain the same.
The cost for psychological assessments varies depending on the nature of the assessment, but generally range between $3500 and $4250.
What Form of Payment do you Take?
We accept Cash, e-Transfer, Mastercard, Visa, Amex and Debit for the payment of services. Payments are required to be made at each session.
Can I use insurance or benefits?
CASA offers direct billing options to some insurers and third parties, although not all of our psychologists/practitioners work with the same insurers, and we do not have direct billing options for every insurance agency. If we do not have direct billing options for your insurer, we can provide you with a receipt upon payment so you can submit it to your insurer for reimbursement. Before booking a session, we recommend checking with your insurer to confirm your plan’s coverage, requirements, and limitations.
Do you offer services by video or telephone?
Yes, we do! Our providers offer services by secure video platform and by telephone when requested and agreed upon with the psychologist.
Are your services confidential?
Yes, all services provided are confidential. We adhere to strict professional and ethical guidelines to ensure your privacy. Information shared during sessions will not be disclosed without your consent, except in cases where there is an ethical or legal obligation to do so, such as in situations involving harm to yourself or others. Limits to confidentiality will be reviewed with you by your psychologist.
